The Benniganahalli Kere Community Development Trust, a citizen’s collective, has lodged a complaint with the Ramamurthy Nagar police and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) against the auto driver who was captured on camera throwing goat skins in Benniganahalli Lake.

The incident occurred on June 18 when an auto driver was seen throwing animal waste from a flyover into the lake.

“We humbly request the Ramamurthy Nagar Police Station to initiate a comprehensive investigation into this incident and take necessary legal measures against the auto driver involved. Furthermore, we seek the active involvement of the Pollution Control Board in resolving this issue and implementing preventive measures to avert future occurrences. The enclosed video footage, which serves as compelling evidence of the auto driver’s misconduct, will undoubtedly prove instrumental in your investigation and subsequent actions,” stated the trust in a complaint letter.

“The enclosed video footage explicitly depicts an auto driver unloading and disposing of waste materials directly into the lake. Such irresponsible behavior not only violates environmental laws and regulations but also poses a significant threat to the lake’s ecological balance. Preserving our natural resources is a collective responsibility, and we have faith that through your concerted efforts, justice will be served, and our environment will be safeguarded,” emphasized P Nagaraj, president of the trust, in the complaint letter.

Situated on Old Madras Road, Benniganahalli Lake has been restored four times in the last 20 years, including as recently as 2019, according to the residents.
