However, a glass window of the car was found broken which raised suspicion.
“During investigation it was revealed that one Neeraj Kumar, who was Arun’s friend, asked him for some money but Arun denied. Neeraj was aware that he (Arun) along with others had committed a robbery and cash was lying in the car. Neeraj along with his three other friends stole Rs 70 lakh from the car which has been recovered,” said CP Sidhu.
Four who have been arrested for stealing robbed cash from the vehicle are — Neeraj Kumar, 20, a salon worker; Mandeep Kumar alias Babbu, 20, who works at an electric works shop; Prince, 20, a laborer who works in Malerkotla and Abhi Singla, 20, who is pursuing IELTS to go abroad. All four are from Barnala. While Rs 20 lakh each have been recovered from Neeraj, Mandeep and Prince, Rs 10 lakh were recovered from Abhi, said CP Sidhu.
The officer added that almost all accused arrested in the case had kept the robbed money intact as the kingpin Manjinder Singh alias Mani had warned them that they would be caught if they spent the money as it belonged to the cash management firm which had fitted tracking chips.
“Of four who later stole the robbed cash from the car, Abhi himself surrendered after he got to know that all others had been arrested. He surrendered with the stolen cash and also apologized,” said CP Sidhu, adding, “We are not aware of any case in the country where all accused are arrested within 10 days in such a big heist. Not only robbers, we have also arrested thieves who further stole the money. Assi keha si sab fade jaange, sab fade gaye (We had said all will be held, all have been held).”
