Manipur, Mar 01(ANI): Mr. Thangkhogin Haokip a Government School Primary Teacher of Molnom Junior High School was allegedly killed by a suspected National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) cadres in Chandel District of Manipur. It is also being reported that several rounds of gun had been fired from the side of suspected NSCN – IM cadres. Both men and women came out on the streets and blocked the road, leading to the Aimol Satu Village, and took the dead body to the alleged NSCN-IM’s residence. The irated villagers ransacked the houses located in the Aimol Satu Village and destroyed and burnt down gates, motor-cycles, houses etc.

Manipur, Feb 17 (ANI): Dancing to the tunes of folk music, these groups of artists from Zelianagrong tribes of Manipur showcased their rich culture during the 11th Zelianrong Folk festival at Sangaiprou Kabui village. The theme was Unity, Peace and Solidarity. The festival was organized by the Society for Promotion of Community Task (SPCT) with an aim to promote and preserve the age-old culture of Zeliangrong, a Naga tribe. Cultural troupes of Sangaiprou, Ireng, Zeme and Inpui performed a variety of cultural dances and sangs. The main attraction of the event was a traditional drum beating by a group of artists. During the event, the performers also demonstrated an age-old custom of fire making with bamboo. The tribal people also set up stalls selling handicrafts items like neck pieces, headgears and other ornaments. Such festivals help to keep alive the tribal culture of the Naga society.

Imphal, Jan 08 (ANI): Expert team of Professors from IIT-Roorkee reached Imphal in Manipur to check the buildings that were damaged in the recent earthquake. Almost 513 buildings and structures were reportedly damaged across Manipur when a powerful 6.8 magnitude pre-dawn earthquake struck the state. The earthquake resulted in huge loss of life and property. A senior official of the state Public Works Department (PWD) said that the visiting experts’ team would also assess other areas of the state and visit damaged structures.
