Lionel Messi has arrived in Barcelona alongside his family with 15 suitcases as rumours of his possible return to Camp Nou have been fuelled again.
Messi’s contract at PSG is due to expire in June, and it remains unclear as to where he will be playing his football next season.
According to Sport, Messi has returned to Barcelona this weekend, accompanied by his family and 15 suitcases, with PSG not in action again until next Sunday.
Barcelona are keen to re-sign the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, but must overcome their crippling financial issues to get a deal over the line. They must also raise £178m before signing new players in the next transfer window as LaLiga closely monitors their precarious financial situation.
According to El Mundo Deportivo, the player’s entourage have made it clear that his trip has nothing to do with his possible return to Barcelona.
This visit coincides with a special date in Barcelona, as it is Saint Jordi’s day, a very special day in the city, which is full of visitors, roses and book stalls.
Barcelona recently spoke to Messi’s father and agent Jorge, and club president Joan Laporta appeared confident of the Argentine star returning when asked by a fan earlier this month.
“We’ll see, but he knows that Barcelona’s doors are open to him. Messi is the best player in history. He has been the most important player in Barcelona’s history,” he had said.
