Isn’t she lovely…’ I have been hearing to different versions of the classic since I was in college. And you get blown away when you are able to hear a song you are so familiar with in a completely new light. And that’s exactly what happened why I played rendition by Livingston Taylor on Spotify this week. Of course, it was a FLAC file but then the new Truthhear Hola in-ear earphones took it to a whole new level.

What was even more shocking was that these earphones, though meant for audiophiles, cost just Rs 1,799. One of those few occasions where the audio quality does not really correlate to the price — my theory is that audio sounds better as you pay more.

Truthhear Co’s Hola are actually high-performance in-ear monitor earphones with dynamic drivers that can take it to a plane far above its tiny size and unassuming looks. But the design is robust and comes with a braided cable, loop for the ears and gold-plated 3.5mm jack, all indicators that this means business.

Interestingly, in the box the company also packs 10 different sets of ear tips for you to find the perfect fit. And for those who need it, there is a slightly costlier version with a mic inbuilt.

These days, for me, wires earphones are played only from the laptop as we don’t have phones with 3.5mm jacks anymore. And usually for my music needs, I am on Spotify or Apple Music where I have created playlists of high-res files that certainly sound better than what you might stream on first tap. The Hola being monitor earphones play music as they were recorded and originally meant to be heard, without the earphones adding their own layer of extra bass or other flourishes.

And with files like these, the Hola steps up like a Matador waving his red cape. Like with Chantal Chamberland’s version of Besame Mucho, her voice is almost like a spirit creeping in slowing into the room, as everything around springs to life. In other words, the experience is almost ethereal, some what paranormal when you consider you are more used to hearing audio with so much life with really expensive on-year headphones.

I can go on and on about how good everything I listed to sounded, from Shivoham in PS2 to Siddharth Menon’s version of Manju Pole. I could not find any flaws with the Hola, this is just how I like to hear my music and just how much I would prefer to pay for great audio playback.

I have to recommend Truthhear Co’s Hola for its superb audio playback capabilities that stay true to the recording and even better pricing that makes audiophile quality music accessible to more people. Just make sure you have a source with a 3.5mm port on it.
