Dia Mirza is on a vacation in the hills, but her sustainability warrior persona is not, especially when it comes to teaching her kids the values of sustainability.
Mirza posted a video of herself with her son honouring a Deodar tree in Mussoorie’s Landour. She captioned the post ‘thank you tree’, adding “a tree that has lived hundreds of years and witnessed the changes of our world, must carry so much wisdom.”
She can be seen laughing with her son Avyaan in the post while she teaches him how to thank a grand tree like the Deodar, on which whole ecosystems depend.

If you are also passionate about nature and want to pass on those values to your kids like Mirza, there are many ways to do it. Let us share some with you.
Start at a young age
Like Mirza is doing with her son Avyaan, it is important you start inculcating these values in your kids at a young age.
Create family traditions that include nature
It is important to have family traditions that include nature as it will show your child that you value nature and its beauty and they will start imbibing those habits too.
Teach them about recycling
Teach your kids about recycling as it is an important part of sustainable living. Tell them how that can help save the planet even in the smallest of ways because each action makes a difference.
Tell them where their waste goes
Another important part of living sustainably is understanding how the waste you generate is disposed of. Show them the mountains of waste littering the world to help them realise that even a small wrapper of a candy is going towards polluting the Earth.
Encourage them to play in nature
You can encourage your children to play in nature by taking them on hikes, where you can show them different plants and trees and what each of their functions are.
Create a nature-rich environment in your home
It’s a good idea to fill your home with plants and read nature-related stories to your children. Do activities with them in your garden like planting saplings or watering your flowers to help them learn to appreciate nature.
