The school education department would be printing over 70,000 booklets and distributing the revised textbook changes to each government school and schools with state board curriculum, for the academic year 2023-24.

Further, additional copies will also be distributed to students for reference detailing the changes made to the textbook syllabus for the current academic year. Although the cost of printing was not disclosed by the department, the department is aiming to distribute the booklets to the schools in the next 10-15 days. The changes were ordered in Kannada and Social Science subjects from classes 6 to 10.

The booklet carrying ‘clarifications’ features the changes introduced by the Congress government after dropping certain ‘controversial’ lessons introduced by the BJP in 2022. The ruling government, in its cabinet meeting last week, decided to bring 18 changes out of the total 45 recommendations made by the textbook revision committee.

The textbook revision committee comprised of Prof Rajappa Dalawai, Ravi Kumar, Prof TR Chandrashekar, Dr Ashwathnarayan and Rajesh as its members.

According to the list of revisions released by Karnataka Textbook Society, the Congress government has dropped a lesson on RSS founder KB Hedgewar and has reintroduced ‘Letter to my daughter’ by first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, translated by Siddanahalli Krishna Sharma.

Additionally, the Congress government has also dropped the works of other right wing ideologues such as Chakaravarthy Sulibele and Shatavadhani Ganesh in Class 10 Kannada language textbook. While Sulibele’s work ‘Heroes of Mother India’ finds no replacement, Ganesh’s work has been replaced with that of writer Sara Aboobacker, who authored ‘War’.
