Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar is the third wanted separatist to die in a little over a month.
His killing in Canada’s Surrey follows that of Khalistan Commando Force chief Paramjit Singh Panjwar, alias Malik Sardar Singh, in Pakistan on May 6.
Also in India’s terror list, Panjwar was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while he was out on a morning walk near his residence in Lahore.
Panjwar (63) was designated as a terrorist by India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in July 2020.
Born in Tarn Taran’s Panjwar village in 1960, he was a key leader of the KCF which is listed as a terrorist organisation. Based in Lahore, he had been operating from there.
Last week, UK-based Avtar Singh Khanda, who led an attempt to vandalise the Indian High Commission in London in March, and had helped Waris Punjab De leader Amritpal Singh while he was on the run from Punjab Police, died in a Birmingham hospital.
In January 2020, Harmeet Singh alias Happy PhD was shot dead near Lahore. Probe agencies said he had been instrumental in training Khalistan Liberation Force modules in India and some Gulf countries.
He was one of the accused in cases of targeted killings in Punjab between 2016 and 2017. RSS leader Brigadier Jagdish Gagneja (retired) and Ludhiana pastor Sultan Masih were among the six victims.
