The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted interim bail of six days to senior IAS officer Sanjay Popli to attend the first death anniversary of his son on June 25.

Popli, through his counsel, senior advocate Vikram Chaudhari and Keshavam Chaudhri, sought interim bail on the grounds that first death anniversary of the his son is on June 25, and that his wife is undergoing treatment for disorientation and psychological distress conditions, and requires Popli’s support.

The petitioner is facing a criminal case registered under Sections 7 and 7A of Prevention of Corruption Act, and is in custody since June 28 in 2022.

Opposing the bail plea, a status report by DSP, Vigilance Bureau, Flying Squad-1, Punjab, was filed before the high court, stated that there are serious allegations being faced by the petitioner in the disproportionate assets that were unearthed during the search and seizure at premises related to Popli. The Bench of Justice Pankaj Jain, on hearing the matter, ordered to release the IAS officer on interim bail with effect from June 23, and ask him to surrender back on June 29.
