Union Home Minister Amit Shah Tuesday urged real-estate developers in Ahmedabad to run a year-long campaign where at least 25 tree saplings can be planted in every real-estate project constructed by them in the past.
After inaugurating a garden developed by CREDAI-Ahmedabad, a body of real-estate developers, Shah said the move would help turn Ahmedabad into a “green” city.
“ Among the tree saplings planted last year, 5.42 lakh saplings survived in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency,” said Shah, who planted a “rudraksha” in the garden. “If every CREDAI member takes an initiative to plant 25 new trees in every project initiated by them, then it will help make Ahmedabad become green,” Shah said.
The Indian Express had reported that more than 17,400 fully grown trees were felled in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar districts in 2020 and 2021.
