Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry calls for bandh on Thursday
Expressing their disappointment with the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (KERC) “arbitrary” process of hiking power tariffs, the members of the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) said that the high tariffs could spell doom for the medium and small-scale industries in Karnataka.
The trade body has called for a bandh on June 22 and directed all its members to close their establishments as a mark of protest against the power tariff hike by electric supply companies (ESCOMs). The call for bandh was a result of establishments receiving their first bills – which went up by 30-70 per cent – after a tariff revision. Around 7,000-8,000 enterprises are expected to participate in the bandh on Thursday. Read more

The High Court of Karnataka has granted the state government 12 weeks' time to redo the delimitation exercise of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) wards in strict adherence to law.
Setting aside a single judge order, which had allowed the delimitation exercise earlier, a division bench of Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale and Justice MGS Kamal said it should be carried out again as per law.
The bench passed the order on Monday on an appeal filed by former Bengaluru Mayor B N Manjunatha Reddy against the single judge verdict.
In the appeal, Reddy claimed that the “exercise of delimitation by the previous dispensation is arbitrary, unreasonable and smacked with political malafide.” Advocate General Shashikiran Shetty, appearing for the State, told the Court that there were errors in the delimitation exercise carried out earlier and redoing it was a necessity. He sought time from the Court for it.
Recording the submission, the division bench granted 12 weeks to carry it out. (PTI)
