The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused urgent hearing of an application filed by the Manipur Tribal Forum, which sought directions to the Army to take complete control of the law and order situation in the strife-torn areas in the state and SIT probe into the violence that led to several deaths. The top court, which is in summer recess, said it will hear the matter when the court reopens on July 3.
Appearing for the applicant, senior advocate Colin Gonsalves told a bench of Justices Surya Kant and M M Sundresh that tribals continued to be killed in the violence. He submitted that scores of tribals had already been killed.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta pointed out that “security agencies are on the ground” and were doing their best to rein in the situation.
