A veterinary doctor allegedly murdered his wife, threw his son and daughter in a well located in a sugarcane farm and then died by suicide at his residence at Varvand village in Daund taluka of Pune district on Tuesday.
Police identified the doctor as Atul Shivaji Divekar (42), his wife Pallavi (35), nine-year-old son Adivat and six-year-old daughter Vedanti. The family lived at Chaitali Park Society in Varvand.
Police said that Divekar was found hanging at his residence on Tuesday afternoon by a neighbour, who informed police. A team from Yavat police station reached the spot. Police said Divekar’s wife Pallavi too was found dead in the house. Police suspect she was strangled by the doctor.
A police officer said a “suicide note” was recovered from the spot, which stated that Divekar killed his wife and children and then ended his life. A police team rushed to the well in a nearby sugarcane farm where the note said that Divekar had thrown his children. After a search, bodies of the two children were recovered from the well in the evening, the police officer added.
Police sent the bodies for postmortem. Further investigation is on.
