Claiming to be the “commissioner of Delhi Police”, an online fraudster cheated a Pune-based man of Rs 7.14 lakh by claiming that the police needed the money to investigate a series of video calls made by a “naked woman”, including to the victim.
The victim, who is a 33-year-old resident of Ambegaon, has lodged an FIR at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.
As per the FIR, the victim received a video call from a “naked woman” in February 2022 and stayed on the call for some time. In the meantime, the FIR stated, the accused took screenshots and videos of the victim chatting with the woman.
The fraudster threatened to circulate the videos to friends and family members of the victim. Later, the victim got a call from another number from a person claiming to be “Shrivastav, chief of Delhi Police”. He told the victim that an investigation has been launched for arresting the woman behind the calls.
The accused told the victim that the “police needed money for the investigation”. Between February 2022 and May 2023, the fraudster made the victim transfer about Rs 7.14 lakh to different bank accounts through multiple online transactions using GooglePay and other platforms.

After verification of the complaint, the FIR in the case was lodged on Monday at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station,” said police inspector Vijay Puranik, the investigating officer.
