Over 1.25 lakh people are expected to participate in a state-level event on International Yoga Day to be held on June 21 in Surat.

Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi chaired a meeting with officials of the Surat Municipal Corporation, the district collectorate, representatives of different NGOs, South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), and officials of the Yoga Board Monday.

The event is being planned at Y Junction on the main road covering 5 kms from all three sides, sources said. School and college students, government officials, industry people, housewives and working women, among others are expected to participate in the event.

“If the weather does not permit, we will also make alternative arrangements at the Indoor stadium or at the SGCCI hall in Sarsana. As per the protocol, the yoga event will be of 45 minutes and 14 minutes of extra time will be given so that people can join the event and leave. We will also extend invitations to those who are nationally and internationally recognised across different fields,” said Sanghavi.
