As Cyclone Biparjoy passed Gujarat without causing much destruction, with “fewer” loss of lives and properties than expected, the state government is all set to celebrate the World Yoga Day on June 21 in a grand manner. Before the landfall, the state government officials were in a dilemma on how to conduct the celebrations, said top sources. But now that the cyclone has passed Gujarat, the authorities have kept the celebration on, the sources added. In fact, at the state-level celebration of the event in Surat that is to be attended by Chief Minister Bhupenda Patel, the organisers are aiming for a world record of the maximum people doing yoga at the same venue.
In Gujarat, the trend of senior party leaders quitting the Congress and joining the BJP does not seem to be ending. Speculations are rife that Gova Rabari, a former Congress MLA from North Gujarat belonging to the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, is likely to join the BJP Monday, a day after Shaktisinh Gohil took charge as the state Congress president. The former MLA who represented the Deesa constituency of Banaskantha district had has recently resigned from the Gujarat Congress.
